MediaTek has launched yet another chipset in its Dimensity 800 series, named as Dimensity 800U. This new chip upgrades in terms of core clocking speeds and dual-SIM 5G than the regular Dimensity 800 chip, but falls behind the GPU and RAM support. Yet, it’s a fine processor that could be coming to midrange 5G handsets soon.
MediaTek Launched New 5G Chips For Mid-rangers
Competing with the arc rival Qualcomm in all segments, MediaTek has yesterday launched a new mid-range 5G chip called Dimensity 800U. This will be the third after Dimensity 800 and Dimensity 820 in the 800-series. The new chip is slightly tweaked to regular Dimensity 800 processor and comes balanced with all feature.
Detailing more, the most important and notable feature of all is the dual 5G SIM support. It’s the first in the market to support two 5G SIMs, where is an essential feature for every Android phone. The dual 5G support is always and provides 2CC 5G Carrier Aggregation. Also, it comes with Voice over New Radio (VoNR) for both the SIMs.
It’s made on the process as 7nm by TSMC, a supports Wi-Fi 5.1 and Bluetooth 5.1 just as Dimensity 800 chipset. It bumps in the CPU performance, as the two Cortex A-76 cores clocked at 2.4GHz and the rest six Cortex A-55 cores clocked at 2.0GHz. The is a slight bump over Dimensity 800’s 2GHz to all eight cores. It comes with Mali G57 MC3 GPU, internal storage of UFS 2.2 and displays of FHD+ screens with 120Hz refresh rate.
Regarding the latest connectivity, it supports the dual SIM 5G with both SA & NSA modes. Further, the imaging support includes the handset bearing it can record 4K videos at 30FPS using a 64-megapixel camera. It supports multiple voice assistants like Alexa, Bixby or Google Assistant, and is planned to feature in mid-range 5G handsets coming this year’s fall.
